Columbia man receives the Carnegie Medal for a Duck River rescue
Samuel Hardin Adcock, 26, swam roughly 1,000 feet down the Duck River at Chickasaw Trace Park in May 2025 to reach a young man the current had pulled away from the boat ramp. With help from James Alan Garner, he kept the man at the bank until a rescue boat arrived. The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission awarded Adcock its Carnegie Medal this spring, and Mayor Chaz Molder and the City Council presented it to him at City Hall in September.
