About Our Bot
If you saw MuletownMailBot/1.0 in your server logs, that's us. Muletown Mail is a free weekly newsletter about Columbia, Tennessee and southern Maury County. Once a day our bot checks a short list of public event calendars and news feeds so we don't miss what's happening around town.
What It Does
- It visits only the exact calendar or feed addresses on our list and doesn't crawl your site. The one exception is a public meeting feed that lists agenda PDFs: it may open those PDFs, on the same site, once each.
- It reads your robots.txt first and does what it says, including any Crawl-delay.
- It waits at least 2 seconds between requests to the same site, and usually makes one or two requests a day.
- It asks "has this changed?" (ETag and Last-Modified) so an unchanged page costs you almost nothing.
- It never logs in, never fills out forms, and never visits Facebook, Instagram or any page behind a login.
What We Do With It
Everything the bot finds goes into a private review list. A person checks each event with the organizer or venue before it appears in the newsletter. We link to your page; we don't copy your articles or descriptions. Some listings are read with the help of an AI model, which only pulls out names, dates and places, and a person still checks every one.
Want Us to Stop, or to List Your Events Correctly?
Add User-agent: MuletownMailBot and Disallow: / to your robots.txt and we'll stay away. Or email [email protected] and we'll take you off the list right away. If we got something wrong about your event, tell us and we'll fix it.
